Gramma's bday

The kids, dog and I loaded up the car and headed over to Houston last Monday to (hopefully) surprise Gramma for her birthday.  I think we were successful!  We did a nice lunch on her birthday and I didn't get any pictures!  We came home and opened present and had a delicious cupcake.
On Tuesday we went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  It was fun!  Izzy, gramma and grampa went to all of the planetarium shows while Logan and I joined them for the last show.  We saw the Faberge egg exhibit and breezed through the dinosaurs section. It was really nice!
Taking a break.

We the. Headed into the butterfly exhibit. Always fun!
We loaded up and headed out Wednesday in order to make it home in time for ABA.

So glad we were able to spend some time in Houston over Spring Break!

Low key weekend

Yesterday Logan had a birthday party near the Hill Country Galleria.  We decided to all head over there.  Brian took Logan to the party while Izzy and I walked around for a bit.  We found a lamp that Izzy decided she wanted for her birthday.  Sure.  Done and done.  We hit up Chipotle for lunch but just missed the free burrito deal.

Today we saw Zootopia.  The kids liked it and did well.  Logan started to get restless about 2/3 of the way through but held it together to get through it.

We have been researching installing the laminate flooring in Izzy's room and are going to tackle the project next weekend.  Can't wait!

Life lately aka eff you insurance

I realized that I never hit 'publish' on my last post.  Oops.  I didn't even go back to proof read it or add more pictures like I had planned on.

Brian's firm changed insurance plans in January.  We had one month of frustrating phone calls and emails about coverage.  Specifically ABA coverage.  It was a mess.  Then Brian changed firms and we had new insurance starting 3/1.  We opted for the HDHP which means we basically pay for everything out of pocket up to our out of pocket max and then everything should be covered.  We also have the option of a HSA account rather than the FSA account.  We are banking on Logan meeting his individual out of pocket max in the next couple of months and then having all of his services paid for for the rest of the year.  We are also banking on the rest of the family not getting hurt.  :)  No more toe/arm accidents.

My feels on the current state of insurance:

Speaking of arm accidents, Brian is getting mobility back in his broken arm and has been doing PT for the past couple of weeks.  He goes back to the ortho next week for x rays and if his fracture looks good he'll be able to add in strength moves.  He is anxious to get back on his bike.  I am not anxious for him to get back on his bike.

Isabel is doing wonderfully in 1st grade.  She is reading chapter books and seems to enjoy school.  Everything is a competition to her still.  We're trying to get her to get out some of that competitiveness in the soccer field.  I'm tired of hearing things like 'oh, well I feel the worst.'  As heard at the doctor's office when went in for strep tests and her test was negative and Logan's was positive.

She still has her unreserved excitement about life in general and it's awesome!

Logan has been having a tough time in kinder.  He is pretty much over school at this point.  He still has not regained language from his regression last summer.  He is making very very slow progress.  It is frustrating for us and for him.  We are going to have him repeat kinder next year.  I haven't been thrilled with how things have gone this year.  At all.

Logan still does ABA 4 times a week and speech once a week.  He is just DONE at the end of the week and really looks forward to 'stay at home' days and hanging out with Brian.  He loves
going to restaurants and will usually ask if we can go to one on the weekends.

Brian seems to enjoy working at the new firm.  The commute is SO much better.

I am still a gym rat and spend a lot of hours there.  I have dialed back my volunteerism at the kids' school.  I was super burned out after the holidays and honestly,  I decided to do the minimum in my class parent duties for a little while.  Unfortunately May will be crazy.  I have birthdays/teacher appreciation/end of year gifts to think about.  It's very difficult with 5 different teachers/aides.

I am still doing meels on wheels and love it.  I look forward to driving the route.  I am also on the Autism Speaks 8k committee this year.  I've had to do things that are super out of my comfort zone (asking for sponsors).  So far I have completely been striking out.

Someone put some feelers out for the PTA board, but I put a stop to that real quick.  I know my limits.  Just kidding.  I do not know my limits at all, but I knew this was a bad idea right now.  I am focusing on Logan and Isabel, eating right, and cleaning the house.  It sounds silly, but when homework is done, the house is clean and I have a healthy dinner prepared, life feels sort of alright.  If the coffee maker is all cleaned and set on the timer for the next morning and the kids' lunches are made....well that's winning at life in my book.

Hudson is doing really well!  I thought he may never get out of that peeing on everything phase, but he did!  He doesn't mark in the house at all anymore.  I think he probably (maybe) still will at other peoples' homes, but we see to have turned a corner.  He still 'leaks' a little when a new person pets him.  He does this to my anyone not normally in the house.   Pretty sure this will always happen.  It's submissive peeing and is really hard to get rid of.  Luckily it's just when someone pets him for the first time so it's usually in the kitchen or entryway.  Both areas are easily cleaned.

Aunt Jenn came into town for a conference so we had some fun!

Thanksgiving and Christmas 2015 and things in between

Before I post anything else I thought I would catch up about the holidays.

Thanksgiving:

I hosted it at our house this year.  I had a ton of recipes I wanted to try and finally narrowed it down to the menu.  I was super excited to use the China and 'good stuff.'  My parents, Brian's parents and Matt and Lindsay were in Austin to celebrate with us!  My good friend, Allison, was also able to come over!
Breakfast was cinnamon roll turkeys.  Good start, right?
See, so lovely.  Aren't we the cutest family?  The turkey was brined and ready to go into the new roaster we just bought the day before.  I also had a brand new thermometer to make sure the turkey was cooked perfectly.

It was almost go time.  I was taking a skillet over to the counter when it dropped onto my toe.  I tried to get my foot out of the way and unfortunately I didn't quite get it out of the skillet's path of destruction.

So my Dad took me to the ER.

All stitched up and ready to go back for Thanksgiving dinner.  We are getting out of the car and Izzy says 'I have good news and bad news.  The good news is that we haven't eaten the turkey yet. (It's like 8:00pm). The bad news is that the turkey was raw.'   Remember that fancy meat thermometer?  Well, it was meant to be used in a regular oven so that the cord would hit the insulation on the oven door and prevent erroneously high readings.  There isn't any insulation in a roasting pan.  We didn't realize that the cord was conducting heat and giving us high readings.  Brian kept turning the temperature down and we ended up with an undercooked turkey.  Shit happens.  I didn't have to do dishes, so there was that.

We celebrated Vivian's birthday with a cake.

Isabel had her gymnastics showcase and it was adorable.  She did awesome.

Christmas 2015:

Between the holiday parties and teacher gifts I was spent.  I was seriously rethinking why I agreed to do this shit.
One of the gift basket of the teacher 'favorites' I made.

We also did the Johnson City lights and the Trail of Lights:

Then we left for Houston:
Logan spent at least half of the time there doing this.

Crowe's Nest Farm aka the field trip from hell

Ok, so it wasn't that bad.  But seriously.  Taking an autistic child out of their routine is pretty much torture.  Logan kept asking to go to the car.  All of the other kids were so excited to 1) have ridden an actual school bus (many for the 1st time).  2). To be on a real farm!  3). To not be in school!

Logan.  Not so much.  I don't know if me being there was a help or hinderance.  I just never know.

Fuck you and this stupid fucking 'field trip.'
No.  I don't care how we get milk from a cow.  Quite frankly I think it's gross.  This whole thing is gross.  Can we leave?

Ok.  I sorta wanna see this old ass turkey with the gross bead things in his chest.
Ew.  Never mind.
Yep.  Obligatory picture with me and a stupid miniature horse.  Happy now?
Hansel and Gretel?  I dunno. But all I know is that I tripped because you told me to go over there for a picture and I tried to go take that damn peppermint candy from them.  Happy moms?!
Rapunzel.  Aka this is so fucking stupid.
Yep.  Peace out.  Don't make me do this agian.
