I Felt Old

As I mentioned before Grandma and Grandpa came into town for a quick visit. Brian and I headed out Saturday night around 9:45 pm. Did you see that? PM, as in night time! We watched a high school friend play with his band. They just started a US tour. They were great! I had so much fun! There was one weirdo that Brian had to step to. Did I just say 'step to'. That's so 1992. Luckily it didn't involve anything more than some harsh words and nasty looks. He was very very inebriated (the guy, not Brian). I stayed out WAY past my bedtime and got home around 2am. SO fun! Unfortunately the kids still woke up at the normal time. I was pretty useless Sunday. I was SO tired.

I can easily get away with 4-5 hours of sleep. Ok, that's a lie. It takes massive amounts of coffee. But there is something about being up for almost 24 hours without a nap that drains you.

We did manage to get out of the house Sunday and went up North to The Domain. I wanted to check out the new H&M. Brian needed some new jeans. I noticed the ones he has and wears every Friday to work had a large hole right in the crotch. Wonder how many Fridays he wore those to work before I noticed?! He found a pair and Isabel found a sweet Butterfly dress for $7.95. I'm still on my 'no new clothes in 2013' mission, so I browsed.

The big neighborhood garage sale is this Saturday. I've been working to get things ready and priced. There's always a big turnout.

Perfect weather

Spring has arrived in the ATX! I was loving the late cool snap we had, but I must say, 65 degrees and sunny is pretty gorgeous. Second only to 0 degrees and snow, this is my perfect weather. Grandma and grandpa came into town for a quick visit to watch The Woodlands and Kingwood boys soccer teams play in the State playoffs.

I met them for lunch at Doc's Backyard. Doc's has outdoor eating and a huge playground for the kids. A great lunch! They won't get back tonight until after the kids go to bed and have to leave early tomorrow morning to get back for a memorial service, but what a nice surprise. It worked out great because we actually had a babysitter booked (3rd time!) so that we could go out and watch a friend's band play. Now we saved about 40 bucks! Yay!

Logan was out in the swing this morning for 35 minutes! I tried putting them down for naps this afternoon. They were SO tired, but I gave up after 30 minutes. Logan was not going to nap. They passed out for a few minutes in the car after I tried to get an inspection. I could have REALLY used a nap today. I'm already tired and the show doesn't start until 10pm! Coffee?!

Dentist and Isabel's 4 year check up.

I finally took the kids to the dentist yesterday.  It was a day I was dreading for some time.  At Isabel's 3 year well check the pediatrician said that she needed to go to the dentist before she was 4.  Well, she was a day late.  I went ahead and took Logan too because I noticed that his teeth seemed a little more yellow than Isabel's teeth and he has an overbite.  Both kids did GREAT.  I was so pleasantly shocked.  I knew Isabel would likely do well.  She's really great at appointments and is very cooperative.  Logan is actually very cooperative with doctors.  His cardiologist actually said (and this is a direct quote) "he is the most well behaved 2 year old I've ever seen."  Hahahahahahaha.....I was like 'if you only knew.'  Anyway, he does pretty well.

Isabel went first and everything looked great and she'll be seen again in 6 months as per the norm.  Logan on the other hand....he needs some work.  Apparently he has incomplete enamel formation which makes him very susceptible to cavities and decay.  He has 2 cavities and one tooth that will need more work, including a baby root canal and cap.  Since he's not quite 3 they wanted to have it done at the hospital under general anesthesia.  He was doing so well with his cleaning that the dentist said that we could wait a month and try conscious sedation (giggle juice and laughing gas).  I'm all for that.  So he will go back in about a month for the cap and fillings.  He may need a partial cap on the other teeth once they are able to check them out further.  We'll see.  I'm also going to ask about sealing the rest of his baby teeth.  They don't normally do it (and it's not covered under insurance) but I would like to avoid the pain and financial burden of having caps and drilling done regularly.  Once his permanent teeth come in about 50% of incomplete enamel formation patients have issues with them as well.  Crossing my fingers he's not one of them.

I really liked the dentist.  She was understanding, patient and took the time after the appointment to come back out and talk to me after the assistant wasn't able to answer all of my questions.  The office is awesome.  It's strictly dental pediatrics, so there are big trees with 'animals' hanging in them, TV's, toys, etc etc.  The exam room is set up in a circle around a huge tree with Christmas LED lights all around it.  Perfect!  The circular thing threw me off at first because there were other kids getting cleanings at the same time in the same room, but I guess they know what they're doing because it seemed like the kids calmed each other down.  The bigger kids were just watching the TV's on the ceilings and acting like the whole thing was no big deal.  Obviously with conscious sedation the kids are in a private, separate room.

After the 2 hour appointment we met Brian for sandwiches.  Isabel was excited to show off her diamond tooth ring and Logan's slimy worm prize from the appointment.

Today Isabel saw the pediatrician for her 4 year well check.  Everything was great and she's doing fine.  We talked about side effects of long term Singulair use (since she just can't seem to get weaned off of if) and she had a hearing test.  Turns out she just has selective hearing.  A problem Dr. Frank assured me she inherited from her father.  Hopefully we can get her off of Singulair this Summer.

Isabel's 4th Birthday!!!

Isabel had her 4th birthday party on Saturday and it was so much fun!  We rented a big bounce house and it was totally worth it.  The thing barely fit, but it provided hours of entertainment for the kids.  We decided just to order pizzas and had a couple of salads for sides.  We made 'Shirley Temples.'  Really just Italian soda and ginger ale.  I didn't want to feed the kids grenadine.  I don't even think Isabel stopped long enough to have anything to drink though.  We had a really nice turnout.  All the kids in her class except 2 showed up and her playgroup friends were here as well.  I thought Logan might have a hard time, but he had a really really good day.  I'm glad we could have a day to celebrate Isabel.  She never gets one on one time with Grandparents and rarely gets it with us, so it was nice to try and make the day about her.

I was SO glad her BFF from school was able to make it.  She talked about her non stop for 2 days before the party.  Her parents were out of town, so I thought it was really nice that her Grandma dropped her off at the party.

We had the full Hello Kitty themed party.  I made the cake Friday with some help from Grandma.  It actually was the fastest homemade fully iced cake that I've ever made!  I made a few dozen cupcakes to go with it as well.  I think everyone had a really good time.  I wouldn't have changed anything about the day!

Sunday we gave Isabel breakfast in bed and then went to Chuy's for lunch and said goodbye to all of the Grandparents.  Sunday night we sang Happy Birthday and celebrated with a cupcake.

I can't believe this sweet little thing is FOUR!!!!  Happy Birthday Isabel!!!!

Isabel's Birthday Celebration at School

Today we celebrated Isabel's birthday at preschool.  I arrived a few minutes before school was over and we sang Happy Birthday and celebrated Isabel's birthday.  Ms. Julie always makes the kids wait until the birthday boy/girl has the first bite of the birthday treat.  Today was no exception.  You could hear crickets while the kids were waiting for Isabel to take the first taste of her cupcake.  It was really cute.  Isabel was both shy and so thrilled to have all of the attention on her.  I was so glad I made the decision to wait to pick Logan up until after the little party.  I don't think Izzy gets enough special attention and I'm glad she had it today, if only for 15 minutes.

I've also added some pictures from Isabel's Easter Egg hunt last week.
Find those eggs!

Sweet Logan missed his egg hunt because he was busy.  On the potty for about 20 minutes!  At least I got this cute picture.
